UNIVERSITY PLACE, WASH

Coleman Farmer scored in the 73rd minute while Neewar Amedi and Peyton Lewis combined for a shutout as the Puyallup Vikings defeated the Curtis Vikings 1-0. The win improves Puyallup to 5-2-1 in SPSL play, while Curtis drops to 5-3.

Puyallup entered the match battling injuries, with multiple key contributors unavailable, as they looked to continue their run of historical success. Curtis aimed to prove it belonged among the SPSL’s top teams.

The match was scoreless through one half of play. Goalkeepers Neewar Amedi (Puyallup) and Tanner Coleman (Curtis) kept clean sheets through 40 minutes. Curtis had the multitude of chances to begin the game. Levi Angelo and Eli Hodson generated plenty of opportunities for Curtis, yet could not score.

In the second half, both teams changed their goalkeepers. Curtis brought in Jamari Hall while Puyallup put Peyton Lewis between the pipes. Lewis had missed the past month due to injury. Curtis continued to press in the second half for an opening goal, but Puyallup’s backline got in shooting lanes, and Peyton Lewis proved to be a steady line of defense for Puyallup.

Puyallup used their counter attack to precision in the 73rd minute. A Grant Swearingen pass found Coleman Farmer who deked around the Curtis defense and tucked in the go-ahead goal for Puyallup.

Curtis’s efforts of an equalizer were denied thanks to a Puyallup defensive front that had their say the entire night.

The Puyallup win puts them in third place in the SPSL Standings with District Playoffs two weeks away.

Peyton Lewis in his first action after being out for a month, dishing a second half shutout came away with Sumner Holiday Inn Express Game MVP Honors.
