(Puyallup, WA) The 6th annual South Sound Classic is set to begin Saturday morning at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup. The meet is hosted by the Emerald Ridge and Rogers (Puyallup) track teams. Jags Head Coach Robert Frey has been a huge driver of this event. Frey says the event has grown by leaps and bounds from just 20 teams in year 1 to 70 set to compete this Saturday.

Last year’s event was full of new meet records for both boys and girls events. 9 of the 11 girls running events set new meet records. Of those new meet records 4 were set by underclassmen with Emerald Ridge’s Iren Derricks 24.54 in the 200m, Sloan Dickson from Lynden going 4:55.85 in the 1600m. Latham West of Bonney Lake ran an impressive 10:38.23 in the 3200 and Eastlake’s Anna Schneidler set a new 300m hurdles record of 42.48. All of the relays set meet records as well.

On the boys side 9 of the 10 running events set or tied meet records. Rogers’ Elijah Harvey tied Lincoln’s Jonathan Frazier (23’) 110m hurdles record of 14.50 set in 2023. The only other underclassman to set a new meet record was Eddie Bruner Jr. in the 400m in a blazing 48.47. Both Harvey and Bruner are seniors this year. Eatonville senior Ethan Carter set the only new Field meet record going 15′ 6″ in the pole vault.
