PUYALLUP, WASH

Lael Mukania scored a pair of goals while Devin Lal played stellar in goal to lead the Emerald Ridge Jaguars past the Sumner Spartans 2-1. The win secured a second place finish in the final SPSL standings. Nathan Stahl scored the lone goal for Sumner.

The Spartans clinched the SPSL regular season championship with their win last week over Olympia. Emerald Ridge came into the night with the possibility of finishing as high as second or as low as fifth in the SPSL.

Sumner opened the scoring in the 26th minute when Nathan Stahl volleyed the go ahead goal off a set piece to put Sumner in front 1-0 heading into halftime.

In the second half, Lael Mukania scored off a pass from Alexander Alvarez in the 46th minute. Mukania was at it again in the 50th minute when he buried a loose rebound to give Emerald Ridge the lead. The Jaguars turned to goalkeeper Devin Lal to close the door on the second place spot in the league.

In the end, Emerald Ridge’s 2-1 win was Sumner’s first league loss of the season.

The District 3/4 bracket was released this morning. Emerald Ridge as the fifth seed travels to face Skyview. Sumner as the second seed hosts Olympia. The full bracket can be found here.
