Levi Angelo and Josiah Strom found the back of the net while goalkeeper Tanner Coleman kept a clean sheet as the Curtis Vikings defeated the Bonney Lake Panthers 2-0 in the District 3/4 Playoffs. With the win, Curtis faces Tahoma 5:30 from Sunset Stadium on Tuesday night.
This was a rematch of a game played on April the 14th won by Curtis 3-0, but Bonney Lake came into the day playing their best soccer at the right time, including a draw against Emerald Ridge and win against Bethel.
The match began with Quinn Richardson chipping a free kick to set up Levi Angelo for the opening goal of the match five minutes in. From there, the Curtis back line limited Bonney Lake scoring chances for the majority of the day. On the other end, Curtis saw plenty of chances to push for an insurance marker.
Curtis got their break when, a foul in the penalty area allowed Patrick Myers to capitalize from the penalty spot. Bonney Lake goalkeeper Alex Ruiz Alvarez had other ideas. Alvarez chose correctly stopping Myers to keep the deficit at one. Moments later, Alvarez made another robbery on Landon Lee.
However, Curtis would not be denied. Eli Hodson’s cross found Josiah Strom in the 66th minute to put the outcome removed from doubt.
Tanner Coleman earned credit for a clean sheet for Curtis in the 2-0 win.
Curtis stands two wins away from a trip to state.
