SUMNER, WASH

The Curtis Vikings thanks to goals from Patrick Myers and Alex Leyva defeated the Tahoma Bears 2-1 to advance in the District 3/4 Playoffs. Tanner Coleman earned the win for Curtis, while Asher Ghavam was dealt the loss for Tahoma. Rocky Lauckner scored the lone goal for Tahoma.

The match was a rematch of last year’s District First Round match won by Tahoma 1-0.

Patrick Myers opened the scoring for Curtis off a set piece where the Vikings forward rammed in the go-ahead goal in the 29th minute. Curtis had a multitude of offensive opportunities although the Meyers goal was all the scoring in the first half. In the second half, Alex Leyva scored his 10th goal of the season on a rush down the right wing to give Curtis a 2-0 lead.

Rocky Lauckner scored to put Tahoma back in the game. However, Tanner Coleman and the stout Curtis backline held on for the win.

Curtis move on to play Olympia in a winner to state/loser out game Thursday at Art Crate at 5:30.

Our Sumner Holiday Inn Express Game MVP of the game was Tanner Coleman who held off Tahoma down the stretch to hand the Vikings the win.

Meanwhile, Olympia defeated Kennedy Catholic 1-0. Declan Borden recorded a shutout in the win. Borden came away with Sumner Holiday In Express Game MVP Honors. Pyke Celedonia’s first half goal was the lone tally in the victory.

Thursday at 5:30 from Art Crate is the match between #11 Curtis and #7 Olympia. This is a rematch of a game played in early April won by Curtis 1-0.
