We are now into the last stretch of high school sports in the 2025/26 school year and the spring state championships are underway. This weekend, ESN will be at a trio of venues between baseball and soccer for a total of nine state playoff games in a 24-hour period.

Below you can find each venue that ESN is at with direct links to the games themselves. You can also check out the broadcast page in the link below where we post our scheduled every single week.

Boys Soccer

The 3A boys soccer state tournament is a 20-team tournament unlike the other three classifications which are only 16-team tournaments. With more matches to get in in the same amount of time, we get two-day, four-team mini tournaments almost exactly like a baseball regional. We will be at Curtis HS for one of these “Soccer Regionals” where Districts 1, 2, and 3 will all be represented. #11 Bishop Blanchet will battle #6 Shorecrest in the opening match at 6pm on Friday. The Bears were upset in the quarterfinals last year by Ingraham and will look to cool down the Shorecrest Highlanders who have not lost to a team other than #2 Shorewood this season.

In the night cap, the hosts of the regional in #3 Silas will look for their first state win in boys soccer since 2019 as they battle #19 Edmonds-Woodway. The Rams were perfect against 3A competition until a loss in the District 3 Championship to Gig Harbor last Saturday. The high-powered attack will have a tough opponent in the Edmonds-Woodway Warriors who already earned a state win on Tuesday when they beat another District 3 team in Auburn Mountainview 2-1. The Warriors are just 11-10 this season but have made at least the quarterfinals in each of the last three seasons. The two winners will meet in the quarterfinals on Saturday to decide who reaches the semifinals at Sparks Stadium in Puyallup next weekend.

Baseball

We will have three different baseball regionals as well with two featuring the #2 seed in their respective classifications.

At Heritage Park in Puyallup, the #10 Kennedy Catholic Lancers and #7 Glacier Peak Grizzlies will get the morning started at 10am. Kennedy Catholic’s only loss in their last five games was a tight 7-6 loss to Sumner but their 2-1 win earlier in the year against Tahoma show that they can beat anyone as they hope to earn their first state baseball win since 2017. Glacier Peak won the Wesco 4A league title and now look to start a new winning streak after seeing their five-game streak come to an end in Districts. This is the first trip to state in baseball for the Grizzlies since 2017 and their only win in a state baseball tournament came way back in 1979.

The big underdogs in this regional will be #15 Moses Lake when they battle #2 Sumner at 1pm on Saturday. The Chiefs had their season on the line last Saturday when they narrowly defeated Wenatchee 1-0 for the final spot in state out of District 5. The Chiefs have not won a game at state since winning the state title in 2019, their second baseball championship in program history. The Sumner Spartans will look to do something that hasn’t been done since the 2017/18 school year and that is win the 4A football and baseball state titles in the same school year. Sumner has never won a baseball state title but did finish second in 2023. The Spartans four losses this season have each come by just one run so expect some close baseball this weekend.

Staying in the 4A classification over in Yakima, the #4 West Valley Rams will host the #13 Curtis Vikings to begin the day on the east side. Curtis is back in state for the second year in a row but they have not won a state game since 1983. The Vikings survived a brutal SPSL 4A league this year and made it to the District 3/4 4A semifinals with an upset of Battle Ground before falling to Sumner. West Valley returns to state after missing a couple of years and have a strong team with title aspirations. Their last state win was in 2016 and they are hoping to win the first state title in program history. The Rams come in perfect on the year at 22-0 and are allowing just 2.4 runs per game this season.

Curtis is not the only SPSL team in Yakima as the #12 Puyallup Vikings battle the #5 Gonzaga Prep Bullpups in game 2. Puyallup was upset in the state semifinals last season but have made the semifinals in four consecutive years. The Vikings won state titles in 2014 and 2017 and will ride an 11-game winning streak into the tournament after starting the year 7-7. On the other side #5 Gonzaga Prep pulled off quite the upset in their district title game, defeating #1 Richland 3-2. The Bullpups are trying to make the semifinals for the first time in program history after a strong 20-4 season.

Down in the 2A classification at Wheeler Field in Centralia, the #2 Tumwater Thunderbirds will actually play in the morning game at 10am against #15 Port Angeles Roughriders. These two schools met in the opening round last season as well where #11 Port Angeles upset #6 Tumwater 6-4, so the T-Birds will be looking for revenge. Tumwater is red hot, winning 12 games in a row entering state as the 2022 and 2023 2A champs hope to get back to the top of the mountain. Port Angeles is upset minded again coming from a loaded District 3 where they stunned Olympic 2-1 to qualify for state for the fourth year in a row.

At 1pm, the #10 Nathan Hale Raiders will battle the #7 Ellensburg Bulldogs in what shapes up to be a very close game. Nathan Hale is in state for baseball for just the second time ever with the other coming back in 1980 when they made it to the quarterfinals. The Raiders pitching has been phenomenal during their five-game winning streak with just eight total runs allowed, including two shutouts. Ellensburg fought through the loaded CWAC where they had to play nine games against state teams like Othello, East Valley (Yakima), and Selah, going 5-4 in those games. Ellensburg went back-to-back in 2017 and 2018 and have 18 wins in the state tournament since 2014.
