(Seattle, WA) As first reported by KOMO News and confirmed by Brandon Roy’s personal Instagram stories celebrating his return, Roy will head back to Garfield and coach his alma mater once again.

After a tumultuous year full of illegal recruiting allegations that Roy has denied, Roy not coaching the team for the 2025-26 season, and one of Garfield’s worst seasons in decades, the four-time State Champion head coach will be formally announced tomorrow at 1 PM as the Bulldogs head coach. Roy has led Garfield to three State Championships in 2018, 2020, and 2023, while leading Nathan Hale to the title in 2017 by beating Garfield in the title game. In Roy’s most recent season as head coach, Garfield took third place in 2025.

Roy went to Garfield and had a successful career with the Bulldogs by bringing them third, fourth, and fifth place. Roy went on to the University of Washington, where he scored over 1,000 points in his career, was Pac-10 Player of the Year in 2006, a first-team All-American, and led Washington to two straight Sweet 16 appearances. Roy had an outstanding NBA career cut short due to injuries, but still was Rookie of the Year in 2006-07, twice made the All-NBA Team, and was a three-time All-Star, among many other accolades for the Portland Trail Blazers and Minnesota Timberwolves.
