Day 4 Round 2 of Match Play

Pullman, Wash – The Rounds of 32 and 16 in the 124th PNGA Men’s Amateur took place today at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash. The championship is being held this week, July 6-11.

The championship, administered by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association, consists of 36 holes of stroke-play qualifying held on July 6-7, followed by a cut with the low 64 players advancing to single-elimination match play. Each match will be contested over 18 holes, with the exception of the final match, which will be played over 36 holes and held on Saturday, July 11.

Conditions were sunny with moderate winds, similar to previous days of the championship.

Championship Links

Byungho Lee

Harrison Moir (Portland, Ore.) and Ryder Odem (Las Vegas, Nev.) each won their morning rounds, with Moir eking out a 1-up win over Aaron Buck and Odem taking down Wyatt Bromwell 2-up. Dueling in the Round of 16, Odem and Moir hardly gave each other an inch in a brilliantly competitive match. Moir successfully tied Odem on hole 11, and for the next seven holes, the two posted identical numbers, forcing extra holes. Going off hole 10, Moir found trouble off the tee and couldn’t recover, allowing Odem to claim the 19-hole match.

Originally from Kirkland, Wash. and a graduate of The Bear Creek School in nearby Redmond, Odem is entering his third season at the University of Denver (Colorado).

Pepperdine University’s Byungho Lee (Plano, Texas) enjoyed a productive morning, winning his Round of 32 match over Joshua Ince, 4&3. In his afternoon Round of 16, Lee drew Garrett Harrison and maintained a steady lead over him over what turned out to be a 17-hole match, never trailing and ultimately advancing to the quarterfinal with a 2&1 margin.

Lee is a rising junior at Pepperdine and won the 2026 Texas Amateur in his home state. His college teammate, Luke Dariotis (Sacramento, Calif.), is also a quarterfinalist, having defeated Ian Schoonmaker and Shaunak Nair Thursday, the latter match in 21 holes.

Tim Chang

Sam Renner (Bend, Ore.) entered this week having won 12 consecutive matches over the previous two PNGA Men’s Amateur championships en route to the titles in both. He entered this championship trying for his third consecutive title, a feat not accomplished since Jack Westland did in 1938-1940. Teeing up in the Round of 32 after handily winning his first match on Wednesday, Renner found himself closely knotted with Luke West (Coeur D’Alene, Idaho), but ultimately advanced to yet another Round of 16.

Renner versed TingWei (Tim) Chang, who had defeated David Martinez 3&2 in the morning. Renner and Chang won the first and second holes, respectively, but Chang pulled away soon after, making the turn 5-up over Renner, who had shot a 44 on the front side. Renner thundered back, going 4-down to 1-down in a five-hole stretch, but ultimately could not get any closer, and Chang took a 1-up win.

Chang recently completed his second season at the University of Oregon and is a product of IJGA Golf Academy in Florida.

Other players to advance include Naoki Easterday (Portland, Ore.), Nilay Naik (Lake Oswego, Ore.) Grant Gudgel (Stillwater, Okla.), and Alex Cooke (Spokane, Wash.). In this afternoon’s Round of 16, Cooke defeated Ben Borgida (Shoreline, Wash.), a junior on the WSU men’s golf team playing on his home course, in 20 holes to advance.

Quarterfinal matchups can be found here.

First held in 1899, the PNGA Men’s Amateur is among the oldest amateur golf championships in the world. Players will compete for the Macan Cup, which is named after legendary golf course architect A.V. Macan, a member of the Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Fame and winner of this championship in 1913.

The PNGA Men’s Amateur was last held at Palouse Ridge in 2014 and won by James Beale. A design of Northwest native John Harbottle III, Palouse Ridge opened in 2008, replacing the old 9-hole WSU Golf Course that had previously existed on the land since 1925. The course is owned by Washington State University and is managed by CourseCo. A public course, it serves as the home of the WSU men’s and women’s golf teams. The layout has a grand and epic scale, flowing over the Palouse hills, and has long since been a regular destination for NCAA and AJGA championships, the men’s and women’s Pac-12 Championships, in addition to those of the PNGA and WA Golf.

The PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship is one of the 11 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors, and seniors conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.

Day 3 Round 1 of Match Play

Pullman, Wash – The Round of 64 at the 124th PNGA Men’s Amateur took place today, over 18 holes at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash.

Throughout the first round of match play, in which players were seeded and matched up according to qualifying, some top seeds were defeated, while others thrived and left an overall impression there are still plenty who figure to contend for this year’s title.

Championship Links:

Eli Geddy of Oceanside, Calif. entered the match play portion as the No. 1 seed, having shot 10-under par through 36 qualifying holes. But matched up against Harrison Moir (Portland, Ore.), Geddy could not advance further. Moir went 1-up after Geddy lost a ball and had to re-tee on hole 2, and after that the two players traded barbs until Moir regained that margin on the 13th. He never rescinded the lead and, as the 64th seed, defeated Geddy in 18 holes.

Somewhat of a household name in Oregon’s amateur and mid-amateur scene, Moir finished fifth at the 2025 PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur.

Another upset win came from Ayden Stack (Bellevue, Wash.) who defeated No. 9 Theodore Snyder 1-up. Stack initially gained that advantage by besting Snyder on hole 6. Snyder did not give up by any means throughout the round, tying the match on three different occasions on the back side, but Stack responded each time and secured the 1-up victory as the No. 56 seed. Stack is a 2026 graduate of Seattle Prep School.

As is often the case in this championship, some rounds were not decided in just 18 holes. No. 8 seed Byungho Lee (Plano, Texas) and No. 57 seed Eshan Singh (Sammamish, Wash.) enjoyed a nice battle throughout the day. After the 15th hole, Singh was 3-up and dormie, but Lee mounted a comeback by winning each of the closing three holes. Going extra holes, it took two holes for Lee to clinch his victory. At 20 holes, the match was the second-longest to the 21-hole bouts of Ryder Odem (Las Vegas, Nevada) and David Sibbett (Tacoma, Wash.), which Odem won, and Bradley Mulder (Spokane, Wash.) and Luke West (Coeur D’Alene, Idaho), won by West.

Lee is a rising junior at Pepperdine University and won the 2026 Texas Amateur in his home state.

Sam Renner

Sam Renner, the two-time defending PNGA Men’s Amateur Champion had advanced to match play as the No. 10 seed. Up against Quinn Burwell (Seattle), Renner won each of the first three opening holes and the closing four of the front side, making the turn with a commanding 7-up lead. He and Burwell squared 10 before one more birdie on his card allowed Renner to take an 8&7 victory over the Santa Clara University commit Burwell.

Renner is a 2026 graduate of Washington State University, the school of which Palouse Ridge is the home golf course. He will continue his quest to be the first player to win the PNGA Men’s Am three times in a row since Jack Westland in 1940.

Round 2 Stroke Play Results

Pullman, Wash. – Eli Geddy of Oceanside, Calif. shot rounds of 62-68 (-10) to earn medalist honors at the 124th PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship, being held this week at Palouse Ridge Golf Club in Pullman, Wash. The championship is being administered by the Pacific Northwest Golf Association.

Eli Geddy

Geddy, entering his sophomore season of college eligibility, had a decorated junior career in which he placed third in the 2024 AJGA The Visit Pullman Junior Championship, also held at Palouse Ridge. His opening round of 62 was practically flawless, with six birdies accompanying an eagle that came on the par-5 18th hole.

Already in a great position heading into the second round, Geddy had an all-par first side and three-birdie back side, marred only by a bogey on the par-3 11th, his only one through 36 holes. With his name now etched upon the Charles H. Davis Trophy for his efforts, the California-native Geddy will enter the match-play portion as the top seed, in search of his first PNGA victory. Geddy finished one stroke ahead of Nilay Naik (Lake Oswego, Ore., -9).

Other notables to advance to match play:

  • Sam Renner of Bend, Ore. – Won the 2025 and 2024 PNGA Men’s Amateurs and will look for third straight. Placed second by a single stroke at 2026 Washington Men’s Amateur. Owns WSU’s all-time scoring average record at 71.45.
  • Bradley Mulder of Spokane, Washington – Won 2026 Washington Men’s Amateur; held outright lead after each round. As a member of Colorado Christian University men’s golf, was named RMAC Men’s Golfer of the Year in spring 2026.
  • Kade McDonough of Missoula, Montana – Shot rounds of 66-66 for 8-under stroke play total. Won 2026 Montana State Amateur and Montana State Match Play Championship.
  • Byungho Lee of Plano, Texas (Seoul, South Korea) – Won 2026 (117th) Texas Amateur and has two total WAGR wins. Rising junior at Pepperdine University.
  • Theodore Snyder of Gig Harbor, Wash. – Has four WAGR wins, and three top 5 results in 2026. Placed fifth in Washington Champion of Champions and earned medalist honors at U.S. Open Local Qualifying
  • Wyatt Brook of Heffley Creek, B.C. – Won 2026 British Columbia Mid-Amateur, as well as 2025 PNGA Men’s Mid-Amateur. Qualified for 2025 U.S. Amateur.

Some of the players to watch in the Men’s Amateur include:

  • Sam Renner of Bend, Ore. – Won the 2025 and 2024 PNGA Men’s Amateurs and will look for third straight. Placed second by a single stroke at 2026 Washington Men’s Amateur. Owns WSU’s all-time scoring average record at 71.45. Ranked 162nd in World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR).
  • Bradley Mulder of Spokane, Washington – Won 2026 Washington Men’s Amateur; held outright lead after each round. As member of Colorado Christian University men’s golf, was named RMAC Men’s Golfer of the Year in spring 2026.
  • Byungho Lee of Seoul, South Korea – Won 2026 (117th) Texas Amateur and has two total WAGR wins. Rising junior at Pepperdine University and WAGR No. 530.

First held in 1899, the PNGA Men’s Amateur is among the oldest amateur golf championships in the world. Players compete for the Macan Cup, which is named after legendary golf course architect A.V. Macan, a member of the Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Fame and winner of this championship in 1913.

Renner is entering as the two-time defending champion, having won the 2025 and 2024 iterations. Renner will look to become the third player to ever win three consecutive titles, after Jack Westland (1938-40) and R.L. MacLeay (1903-05).

Renner is also a 2026 graduate of Washington State University, and a win would complete his trifecta at his Alma Mater’s home course.

In addition to Renner, Westland and MacLeay, other past champions include Tiger Woods, Jeff Quinney, Ben Crane, Zac Blair, Jeff Coston, Nick Flanagan, Jim McLean and Pacific Northwest Golf Hall of Famers Chandler Egan, Harry Givan, Bud Ward and George Holland, among many others.

The PNGA Men’s Amateur Championship is among the 11 major, regional, amateur championships for men, women, juniors, and seniors conducted annually by the PNGA throughout the Northwest.
