(Austin, TX) Both teams came into the match on a 3 game losing streak. Seattle was coming off a 5-1 loss to rival Portland and Austin dropped their last match 3-0 to St. Louis City. The game was delayed at the start due to the heat. Even with the delay it was 96 degrees at kickoff.
Final Austin 3, Seattle 1
Austin got the goal scoring started in the 11th minute. A cross from Besard Sabovic was headed low and in by Ilie Sanchez.
Seattle answered in the 26th on a rebound goal by Paul Rothrock. Snyder Brunell took a shot and it hit off the post right to Rothrock for the finish.
Halftime Seattle 1, Austin 1
The second half was difficult for both teams as the heat and humidity were oppressive. The 2 teams went to the hydration break in the 75th minute in a stalemate.
Austin broke the tie in the 86th minute. 18 year old sub Ervin Torres sent a well timed pass to Myrto Uzuni for his first MLS assist.
Torres got his second assist 5 minutes later on a nice run to the end line and pass to the near post. The pass was settled and turned on by Christian Ramirez for the 3-1 final score.
Things didn’t get better for Seattle when a late tackle by Jackson Ragen 4 minutes into stoppage time. That was Ragen’s 2nd yellow and he will miss the next 2 Sounders matches.
