Chicago 82, Seattle 80

(Seattle, WA) The Seatle Storm fell short again after falling behind at the half and then rallying in the final 2 quarters. The visiting Chicago Sky jumped out to a 22-11 lead after the 1st quarter and built a big 46-29 halftime cushion. Little did they know they would need nearly all of that 17-point head start to hang on for the win.

The Storm’s youth and newness with a new system, coaches and players is still coming into place. Despite the frustrating losses as they now sit at 7-30, the last two games show that progress you want to see when you basically start over.

Seattle came out in the 2nd half and showed the world what they can be when they are all on the same page. They outscored the Sky 26-14 in the 3rd to pull within 5 points with a full quarter to play.

The Storm kept coming back and pulled within 1 with just 10 seconds to go in the game and sent the Sky’s Courtney Vandersloot to the line where she made 1 of 2 free throws for a 2-point lead. Seattle had a shot to tie it at the end but Jade Melbourne missed a driving lay-in as time expired.

Chicago improved to 13-22 and were led by Kamilla Cordoso with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Natasha Cloud added 20 and Vandersloot finished with 15. Chicago is back in action on Tuesday when they host the Liberty.

Seattle got a double-double from Dominique Malonga with 19 points and 13 rebounds and she added 4 blocks as well. Ezi Magbegor added 17 and Melbourne finished with 11.

Seattle will hit the road next as they head to Dallas. The Storm have seven more games in the 2026 season.
