WF West 84, Centralia 20

(Chehalis, WA) With just 2:25 left to play in the 1st quarter the home team and heavy favorite WF West Bearcats led their crosstown rival Centralia 6-3 giving hope to a huge Tiger crowd that an upset just might be possible. Bearcats Coach Tom Kelly took a time-out and “reminded” his team of what they were supposed to be doing and from that point on WFW went on a 78-17 run and quickly put the game away.

In the final 2:25 they outscored the Tigers 11-2 for a 17-5 lead and the ran that to a 39-10 halftime advantage. Courtney Bennett was one of the spark plugs that got things rolling scoring 11 off the bench on her way to a game high 18.

The Bearcats then piled up the points with 24 more on 3rd and finishing with another 21 in the 4th with several bench players also scoring. 9 Cats would put up points supporting Bennett’s big night. Erika Brumfield had 15, Taya McCallum 12 and Annika Waring with 10. The guards Kiara Steen, Julia Johnson and Maggie Vadala all combined for another 23 points.

It was a rough night for the Tigers as good as the Bearcat offense ended up being it was the swarming defense that set up much of the offense. For the 2nd time in 2 straight games Centralia could only score 5 points in both the 1st and 2nd quarters and finished with 6 in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th. There was one shining star for the Tigers Ellie Corwin had 8 or 40% of the points for Centralia and she earned our Pacific Sports Spa Player of the Game. Courtney Bennett was our Bearcat Player of the Game.

WF West is now 4-0 in EVCO 2A league play and 11-2 overall while the Tigers drop to 2-2 and 9-5.
