KENNEWICK, WA

With the game pushed back to 8:00 PM due to the heat, not even overtime could affect the excitement of the Chiawana Riverhawks Friday night to open the season. Chiawana won on a field goal in overtime to defeat Kamiakin 22-19.

Junior Kicker Aaron Lowry played hero with the 20 yard field goal to end the game. Kamiakin was last year’s undisputed MCC champion while Scott Bond and the Riverhawks went 5-5. It’s a new season and it shows just how competitive the MCC is.

We got our first look at Chiawana’s new QB1, junior DJ Duran. On the other side, sophomore Trent Woodhouse won the quarterback competition in preseason, but went down with an injury early in the game. Junior Carter Poland played the remainder of the game, throwing two of the three touchdowns for the Braves.
