(Lacey, WA) The North Thurston Rams scored a goal in the 2nd half and made it stand up to give new Head Coach DeWayne Thomas his first win. The two teams kicked off on a sunny afternoon and battled back and forth in the 1st half with each team having opportunities to put the ball into the net.

For Capital Ella Thompson, Rylee Hall and Sophia Charette fired on the Rams goal but the defensive backline of Ava Zittel, Sophie Swanson and Jade Colon assisted keeper Reyna Gandy in denying the Cougars a goal.

On the flip side Rams speedster Lizzy Clemens, Daliya Prohim and Sophie Swanson all had chances to split the defense but in turn, the Cougar backline of Sammy Smith Charlie Turcotte and Harper Plughoff with keeper Mia Hentges kept the Rams scoreless.

North Thurston then broke through in the 2nd half in the 48th minute on the 3rd corner kick of the 2nd half. The 1st two the Rams tried the short corner kick which were both defended. Then on the 3rd Sophie Swanson stepped up to take the corner and launched out in front of the goal and Prohim was on the other end and knocked it in for the goal.

That’s how the match would end a 1-0 win for the Rams who evened their record at 1-1 while Capital drops to 0-1. The Cougs will host Prairie on Saturday and the Rams will travel to Central Kitsap next Tuesday.

North Thurston’s Sophie Swanson was named our MVP of the game.
