Week 8 Coverage

Lincoln 42 Lakes 28

The showdown between 4-0 Lincoln and 3-1 Lakes at the world famous Lincoln Bowl was a good one. The first quarter would end up being a feeling out process with punts on their first possessions. The Abes would land the first blow with John John Nelson picking off Lakes QB Legend Galeai on the Lancers second drive of the game. Lincoln couldn’t take advantage of the turnover and would end up turning the ball over on downs at the Lakes 40 yard line.  The first quarter would end with a Lakes punt.

The second quarter would start off with an 11 play drive by Lincoln capped off by an 18 yard touchdown run by John John Nelson. the Lancers would get on the board after a Leo Pulalasi 9 yard touchdown scamper to tie the game at 7 all. That tie would last all of 13 seconds that’s how long it took Drake Granberry to return the kickoff for the 14-7 Abes lead. Lakes would answer with a 7 play drive ending with Galeai finding his top receiver David Wells for a 25 yard touchdown with 1:45 to play in the half. Lincoln ran down the field and QB Gabarri Johnson punched it in on an 8 yard touchdown run to give the Abes a 21-14 lead at the half.

Lincoln got possession to start the 2nd half and would strike quick with a 62 yard pass from Johnson to Granberry that would set the Abes up at the 4 yard line. Navarre Dixon ran it in one play later but the PAT missed and it was 27-14. On the Lancers next drive it was again Galeai finding Wells this time for a 23 yard td to make it a one score game. After a 3 and out and a shanked punt the Lancers were set up at the 47 yard line of the Abes. The Lancers drove into the red zone and went back to the Wildcat with 4 straight plays but Lincoln’s defense  would not give and the ball was turned over on downs at the 2 yard line. Lincoln would score 5 plays later when Johnson hit DJ Ervin on a 41 yard dime with Johnson running in the 2pt conversion to make it 35-21 at the start of the 4t quarter.

Lakes would answer 2 plays later with Galeai finding Tristan Baker on a 74 yard touchdown pass after the PAT it was 35-28. The Abes run game would take over and take 4 minutes off the clock ending with a Gabarri Johnson 10 yard touchdown run to put Lincoln up 42-28. Drake Granberry would seal the victory with a pick of Galeai and the Abes would run the clock out to stay undefeated on the season.

Lakes is now 3-2 in PCL play with 3-2 Mt. Tahoma up next to close out the season with the winner making it to the post season. Lincoln is now 5-0 in the PCL and play at 5-0 Spanaway Lake for the League title on Friday.

Drake Granberry was our Thorbeckes MVP of the Game with 126 receiving yards, a kick return td, and the game sealing interception.
