With the regular season winding down this week in girls’ soccer around the state, the Puyallup Vikings pushed their unbeaten streak to 3 matches as they came back to draw the Curtis Vikings 1-1 at Bob Lucey Field.

The first half was an even affair as both teams had mostly half scoring chances, with the first threat being a Puyallup cross that just went wide of the Curtis net in the opening minutes.

Curtis was probing the Puyallup goal in the 1st half with a couple mild shots at goal, but that changed late in the half when an Enya Niebergall shot from about 25 yards out for Curtis forced Puyallup goalkeeper Olivia Weidner to leap up into the air and just get a piece of the ball to keep the match scoreless at halftime

In the 2nd half, Curtis took no time scoring as a perfect cross found the back of the net courtesy of Noelle Lordahl just 90 seconds into the 2nd frame.

For the next 10 minutes, Curtis looked like the more threatening team offensively and it seemed they would score to make it 2-0. Puyallup though pulled a Lee Corso “Not So Fast,” as they got back into the match by getting some possession and breaking through with 17 minutes to go in the match with a Kristen Gratzer goal assisted by Melanie Torres on a cross.

The final minutes were back and forth as both teams opened up and attacked each other’s goal, but were unable to find the game winner.

Puyallup improved to 6-4-2, while Curtis got their first draw to go to 7-4-1. Curtis wraps up regular season play against Sumner on Wednesday, while Puyallup hosts Bellarmine.
