(Soap Lake, WA) Today, play concluded at Lakeview Golf and Country Club for the Washington Men’s Four-Ball Championship and the Senior Men’s Four-Ball Championship. Both Championships are two-day, 36-hole tournaments, and each were nailbiting finishes.
In the Men’s Four-Ball, Spokane’s Andrew Von Lossow and Hayden Lake, Idaho’s Reid Hatley took the title by just two shots. The dynamic duo shot a seven-under round of 65 in the first round and bettered it by a shot in the second round, with a 64 to finish at 15-under. Hatley and Von Lossow have been familiar faces in tournaments around the state, with Hatley being a six-time WA Golf Mid-Amateur Player of the Year from 2015 to 2020, and Von Lossow bringing home the award three times in 2022, 2024, and 2025. Hatley won last year’s Championship with Nate Plaster and in 2023.
Taking second place were Spokane’s Benjamin Barrett and Teigen Brill, who were 13-under for the two days. Barrett and Brill were tied for the lead after the first round, but shot a six-under 66 to fall two shots short of a playoff. Spokane’s Jaxon Chimienti and Ty Anderson shared third place with Soap Lake’s Andrew Whalen and Ephrata’s Scott Adams at 11-under. Ephrata’s Kenji Pickeral and Lake Oswego, Oregon’s Charles Hageman, rounded out the top five at eight-under.
For the two days, the front nine was over a shot harder than the back nine. The front saw an average score of 38.56, while the back nine’s average was 37.54. The easiest hole of the week was the 11th hole, a 487-yard par 5, which played under par with an average score of 4.73. There were two eagles on the week, and a high of 22 birdies. The hardest hole was the 180-yard par 3, 7th, which played half a stroke over par at 3.51. Only four birdies were made for the two rounds, but 28 bogeys, and eight doubles or worse.
In the Senior Men’s Four-Ball, Bellevue’s Tom Brandes and Kirkland’s Erik Hanson took home the title, with a pair of six-under 66s to win by two shots. The PNGA Hall of Fame pair won the Championship in 2022. Brandes won the Men’s Four-Ball in 2006 and 2007. Brandes entered the PNGA Hall of Fame in 2015 while Hanson was freshly inducted in April.
Second place was a tie between three pairs, and went to a scorecard playoff, and Tacoma’s Dana Christianson and Sumner’s Larry Redfield won the playoff at 10-under. Christianson and Redfield shot 68 in the first round and stormed back with a 66 in the second round, with four birdies in a row to close out the final day. Neil MacLeod from Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, and Steve Wheeler from Whistler, British Columbia, Canada, also shared second, with two 67s. Carnation’s Michael Swingle and Bellevue’s Ted Himka were the leaders after the first day, with the best round of the tournament, a seven-under 65, and followed it up with a 69. Seattle’s Paul Hogben and Issaquah’s Cris Bae finished fifth with a two-day total of eight-under.
The two nine’s were nearly identical for the week. The front nine saw an average score of 38.88 while the back nine saw an average score of 38.90. The hardest hole on the course was the par 4 9th hole, which played over half a stroke over par at 4.59. Only four birdies were made in the two days, but there were 44 bogeys, and 22 doubles or worse. The easiest hole on the course barely played under par, as the par-5 4th saw an average score of 4.99. There was one eagle, a tournament-high 34 birdies, and only 34 bogeys or worse.
