With All-Star weekend right around the corner, fans are ready for all the big events highlighted by the All-Star Game and Home Run Derby. However, the events actually start before both of those with the MLB Future’s Game.
The brightest prospects and stars of tomorrow battle it out in an always evolving format. What started out as a USA vs. World event has morphed into a typical American League vs. National League with loads of talent on both sides. With one of the best farm systems in the sport, it was always clear that the Seattle Mariners would have some representation.
On Wednesday, the rosters were announced and a couple of the biggest prospects in the Mariners system, and MLB as a whole, were named to the American League side. Both Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan will head to Philadelphia for the game in what could be their only opportunity to do so as both are being factored into the Mariners late season call-up plans.
Left-handed starter Kade Anderson is the top prospect in the Mariners system and the #5 prospect in the sport despite being drafted less than a year ago. Anderson surprisingly fell to the M’s at #3 of the 2025 draft where there was zero hesitation for the M’s to grab him after being the star pitcher for LSU’s National Championship winning team and was named the Most Outstanding Player of the entire tournament. Much like fellow LSU alum Paul Skenes, Anderson is dominating in the minors and will likely be called up to add to the M’s bullpen late in the season. He will still be in the rotation in the future as Double-A has offered him little challenge. He has a 1.22 ERA in 66 2/3 innings with just 10 walks and a stunning 99 strikeouts with the Arkansas Travelers.
Joining him in Philadelphia will be fellow Traveler in right-handed pitcher Ryan Sloan. Sloan is Seattle’s #2 prospect and the #8 prospect in the game and will be right there with Anderson when the call-ups eventually come. This his Sloan’s second season in the minor leagues and much like Bryce Miller and Bryan Woo, has seen his ERA bloom a bit in Double-A. That has a lot to do with trying new things as the organization thinks he will be just like Miller and Woo and seamlessly transition to the big leagues when he relies on his strengths rather than working on his weaknesses. At just 20-years-old, Sloan has all the tools as all of his pitches are elite level with a fastball in the mid to upper 90s with multiple top tier strikeout pitches with his changeup and sweeper. He has struck out 72 batters in 57 innings in 2026.
Kade Anderson and Ryan Sloan join quite the list of former Mariners to participate in the Futures Game. Current Mariners like Julio Rodríguez, Emerson Hancock and Cole Young have played in the game along with players from the past like Félix Hernández, Robinson Canó, and Nelson Cruz. However, this will be the first time that the Mariners representatives will be taking center stage as some of the very top players to watch in the game. As of now, it is unknown if either Anderson or Sloan will start in the game.
The Futures Game will again be a seven-inning game and take place on Sunday, July 12th at 9am Pacific Time at Citizen’s Bank Park in Philadelphia. It will be the 26th Futures Game that started in 1999 and the sixth under the AL vs. NL format. The National League holds the advantage 4-1 and have outscored the AL 29-14.
