5/3/16

Aberdeen 5, WF West 0

(Chehalis, WA) The 2 teams came into this loser out play-in game with 2 very different records. The WF West Bearcats were 3-12-1 and 0-6 in Evco 2A league play while the Bobcats were 15-1 overall and 13-1 in Evco 1A league play. The Bobcats are playing in their final season of the Evergreen 1A league as a 2A school and will re-join the Evergreen 2A league next season eliminating these play-in games.

But the system was in place for 2 seasons and the Bobcats knew they had a rough go to get into the 2A District tournament and 1st had to beat the Bearcats at WF West. Whoever won would then host the GSHL 5th place team on Thursday in another loser out pigtail game. The winner on Thursday will qualify to the District Tournament as the North #4 seed and will play at Ridgefield on Saturday afternoon at 1pm.

The 2 teams would battle through the 1st 40m minutes with several opportunities for both teams. The keepers, Alexis Garcia for Aberdeen and Daniel Ford for WF West were rock solid knocking down several shots with the help of strong back line play. The Bobcats found the only crack in the 1st half in the 23rd minute when Isaiah Contreras took a pass from Trevor Dawkins and fired it past Ford giving the Bobcats a 1-0 lead, a lead they would take to the half.

The Bearcats would get a great opportunity late in the half when Josh Wilks looked like he was about to head a shot past Garcia for the equalizer but Garcia came out of nowhere with a Superman”esque” leap to punch the would be shot out of play saving the goal. This play would also win our ProActive Physical Therapy Play of the Game.

It didn’t take long for the Bobcats to put this match away in the 2nd half scoring 2 goals in 2 and half minutes for a 3-0 lead and a 4th goal within 10 minutes of the start of the 2nd half. Isaiah Contreras used the side post for an assist after Alejandro Felipe just missed with the shot off the post and Contreras re-directed it past Ford in the 41st. Litertally a minute later Contreras would have his hat trick with a beautiful bending shot from the top of the box and it was 3-0.

Cesar Corona got into the act in the 50th minute taking a loose ball in the middle of a bunch of players and found a hole to knock it in for a commanding 4-0 lead. Corona would top off the scoring in the 72nd scoring his 2nd goal of the match on a break-away flip shot in a 1-on-1 situation to make it 5-0.

Aberdeen improves to 16-1 overall will now host the 5th place team out of the GSHL on Thursday and that’s Hockinson. It’s a loser out pigtail match with the winner advancing to the District Tournament on Saturday with a 1pm game at Ridgefield. WF West had their season come to an end.

Our Tommy Lowe of the Greene Realty Group Player’s of the Game went to Aberdeen’s Isaiah Contreras and WF Wests’ Cristian Moran.
